End ’70′s, some officials get cout up in a drug-scandal, known as “The affaire Francois”. (: scandal about Belgian officials involved in drug-traffics and infiltration techniques. Methodes, introduced by an officer of Belgian Gendarmery.)
In 1981 a computer-expert, Luc Van Daele, was found dead (murdered), in Maldeghem, with a bullet in his thorax.
He was a civilian, and working for the Gendarmery’s CBO. In 1981, two gendarmes of Dendermonde are convicted, for delivering heroïne to prostitutes of the Brussels North-quarter. Still in 1981, around newyearseve, sofisticated wapons (of the elite-branch) are stolen out of the gendarmery’s building.
Between 1982-1983 some murders, thefts and robberies take place by the “Gang of French Brabant”. (De Bende van Nijvel in Dutch). Among the victims are two former cab drivers, José Van den Eynde and Constantin Angelou. In between the 2 killings are about 3 weeks. One of them “is at the wedding of Franco” (Spain’s former dictator). Some sources say both fought for the “Italian Blackshirt Division” during World War II, in Italy.
In 1984 en 1985 the “Cellules Communistes Combatantes” takes part in mostly bombings of banks, a building of VBO-Brussels, Nato-pipelines…
In 1985 the “Gang of French Brabant” (Bende van Nijvel in Dutch) returns, making more casualties then before (16 in the latest 3 robberies). Officially this paramilitary gang made 28 deadly casualties. Again rumors appear in press-articles about sex orgies with minors, about blackmail-tapes…
In 1996 the Dutroux-scandal is worlwide news: in the region of Charleroi, two teenagers (Laetitia Delhez and Sabine Dardenne) who have been kidnapped by a “marginal gang”, escape alive out of a dungeon, made by Marc Dutroux. They are rescued by some motivated investigators. Later on, 2 very young girls (Julie Lejeune and Melissa Russo) are found dead by police investigators. Two other teenagers (Ann Marchal and Eefje Lambrecks) are also discovered dead. Another (sadistic) co-bandit of Marc Dutroux, Bernard Weinstein, is the 5th deadly victim, found closeby the criminal environment around Marc Dutroux.
Again rumors appear and press-articles are published about anonymous witnesses saying they have been abused in their childhood and some people (Christine Van Hees [1984]-Brussels, Carine Dellaert [1984]-Gent, Katrien De Cuyper) died in sadistic rituals…
